As the market for weightlifting nutritional supplements has exploded over the past few years, many pretenders have shown up; most with products that have mixed results/ reviews at best, and a handful that are simple scams. So how do you know whether or not a nutritional supplement is legit or not?
Marketed as a pre-workout energizer that helps you to get through the most intense workouts possible, the manufacturer also claims that Cellucor C4 aids in concentration to help keep you on track with your reps and not get distracted.
Believe it or not, this product does not have a top-secret formula (known as a ‘proprietary blend’ in the industry), and thus you can find all of the ingredients and the dosage of each on the label of the product. This is a nice slice of transparency and does lend to trust in the product.
It also comes in a wide variety of flavors, the most popular being: Icy Blue Razz, Fruit Punch and Watermelon.
Cellucor C4 does actually get some decent customer reviews, yet independent studies have shown that the ingredients dosage is actually too low to be very effective; possibly a price to pay for not including any stimulants in the formula.
Besides the most common stimulant, caffeine, most other common (and effective) stimulants commonly founding nutritional supplements are absent from the ingredient list. The most common (and effective) stimulant found in many pre-workout supplements is peculiarly absent: yohimbine, which has been proven to be an effective fat-burner. Cellucor C4 also lacks rhodiola, which has been shown to aid cognitive and physical endurance. And to top it off, the ingredient list is also lacking in betaine, a known substance which aids in muscular and physical endurance.
So what about the list of Cellucor C4 side effects? Well, this is where it gets a wee bit negative:
- Upset stomach
- Stomach cramps
- Anxiety attack
- Tingling sensation in limbs
- Skin rash
In fact, get this- Cellucor C4 causes the very same (or at least similar) side effects as ephedrin, which is now banned by the FDA. You do the math….
